vearnc1963 I know this has been out for a while but today I had that magical day when this album was just perfect. It's gorgeous. Favorite track: The City and the Stars.

Paul Asbury Seaman This masterpiece harks back to the late-70s heyday of such sequencer pioneers as KSchulze and TanDream, but also refined by today’s cleaner ambient tones and technology. The first long track here is a study in restrained, slow-burn rhythms and atmosphere. By contrast, the title track starts right in with a classic propulsive sequencer line and sustains it for 25 minutes. Yet it never feels too long. And when the synth flutes enter about 2/3 into it, the effect is transcendent. Favorite track: The City and the Stars.

about

What you have here are two long pieces and two short pieces, plus a long ambient bonus that uses various sections of the other tracks, but carefully hidden.

For this release, I asked Giuseppe Milazzo to do the artwork for me based on one of his excellent photographs. I also asked him to name the tracks, based on the images they summoned forth when listening (although, not under controlled conditions).

The track "The City and the Stars" was a live piece, based around a sequencer setup that took a while to get ready. I chose the title as, together with "Against the Fall of Night", it's one of my favourite Arthur C Clarke books – and this in turn might give you a clue as to the inspiration for going for a live recording.

In total, there is over 90 minutes of material here (about 60 minutes, if you discount the ambient section), so that should keep you occupied whilst I get on with a few other things for a while. It's like having an old double LP.

You can choose to finish your listening pleasure after the first four tracks if you want a more compact listening experience. Then you can save the ambient section for a different time. "The world is your lobster, Rodney."
