about

This release just happened. I was setting up some ideas and I was playing around with them live. I had the sense to click the record button, so here they are. There are mistakes and there is a fade on the second piece because I couldn't rescue what happens "a few seconds after the fade" (nice name for a track). I will return to that setup as I think it has potential.

The first track ("Defective Spires") is a completely improvised drone piece that seems to have a certain charm for some people. Try it once, you may enjoy it. The title refers to what I think about the place in the cover picture – thanks to Eldon Pilkington for his wonderfully evocative black and white picture, it's one of many that he's taken.

The second track ("Floating Harmonics") was recorded live after quite a bit of setup. I was trying out a few new ideas and this piece could be considered to be an echo of a longer and more developed piece that will come into existence soon. Thanks to Giuseppe Milazzo for the title - and, yes, Giuseppe, I did "correct" the fade at the end.

There is something that can't be left unsaid. On 26th April, 2022, we lost Klaus Schulze. Without doubt, this is a huge loss and my thoughts go out to his family and friends. I would say that he was "in my thoughts" as I played, rather than this being any kind of homage, although the two styles have a certain feel to them. I have loved his music for about 45 years and I will never tire of it.
